Overview

Set up YouTube Live streaming for a channel. New channels require phone verification and a 24-hour waiting period before streaming is enabled.

Prerequisites

  • Google account
  • YouTube channel (can be created during setup)

Accessing YouTube Studio

Navigate to https://studio.youtube.com

If not logged in, you'll be redirected to Google sign-in:

  • input "Email or phone"
  • button "Next"

Creating a Channel (If Needed)

If you don't have a YouTube channel, a creation dialog appears:

  • input "Name" - Your channel display name
  • input "Handle" - Your unique @handle
  • button "Create channel"

After clicking Create channel, you'll be redirected to YouTube Studio dashboard.

Main navigation elements:

  • button "Dashboard" - Overview
  • button "Content" - Manage videos
  • button "Analytics" - View statistics
  • button "Customization" - Channel branding
  • button "Settings" - Channel settings

For live streaming:

  • link "Go live" or button "Go live" - Start live streaming setup
  • button "Create" - Opens creation menu with upload/live options

Navigate via link "Go live" from dashboard.

First-Time Setup

New channels see a verification prompt:

"To access live streaming on desktop, verify your phone number."

Elements:

  • button "Request" - Request streaming access
  • button "Verify" - Start phone verification
  • button "Cancel" - Dismiss dialog

Phone Verification Flow

  1. Click button "Verify"
  2. New tab opens for phone verification
  3. Enter phone number and receive SMS code
  4. Enter verification code
  5. Return to YouTube Studio tab

24-Hour Waiting Period

After verification, new channels must wait 24 hours:

"Only XX:XX:XX until you can stream"
"You requested streaming access on [DATE] at [TIME]."

During this period:

  • button "Stream" - Disabled
  • button "Webcam" - Disabled
  • button "Manage" - Disabled
  • button "Schedule Stream" - Available (schedule future streams)

Live Streaming Options (After Activation)

Once streaming is enabled:

Stream Settings

  • button "Channel Level Settings" - Default stream settings
  • input "Title" - Stream title
  • input "Description" - Stream description
  • Visibility options: Public, Unlisted, Private

Tips

  • Phone verification is one-time per Google account
  • The 24-hour waiting period is enforced for new channels only
  • You can schedule streams during the waiting period
  • Stream key is available in Stream settings for encoder software

Limitations

  • New channels cannot stream immediately after creation
  • Some features (monetization, custom thumbnails) require additional verification
  • Mobile streaming may have different requirements
